Kick-Off for the EU SESAR Project ATMOSPHER in Rome

On September 17, 2026, the kickoff meeting for the EU SESAR Joint Undertaking project ATMOSPHER took place in Rome. The meeting was an important first step toward bringing together the numerous project partners from a wide variety of fields, aligning objectives, and setting the course for the work ahead.
Over the next 36 months, ATMOSPHER will develop and validate seven integrated solutions for next-generation air traffic management, which will offer the following:
- Advanced air traffic control platforms that integrate communication, navigation, surveillance, and weather services
- More dynamic airspace management and automated balancing of demand and capacity
- Trajectory-based operations with automated cross-border clearances
- Flexible, secure, and increasingly digital civil-military coordination
- Collaborative “capacity-on-demand” services
- More efficient flight routes and improved environmental performance
- Optimized airspace utilization, increased operational efficiency, and enhanced safety for all airspace users
