S. Wolschlager: Vergleich von Sprachen zur Definition von Web Services im Hinblick auf Geschäftsprozessmodellierung

Web Services have been proved to be an efficient way of integrating applications in the B2B and B2C sector. A Web Service is a software-component, which offers application logic to other applications. This can be realized by standard-internet-protocols. Web Services can be combined and integrated in order to implement business collaborations. The integration of Web Services is referred to Service Composition. The business process between the companies must be described by means of languages like BPEL4WS, BPML, WSCI and WSCL.

Within the scope of this work, these languages are examined. They are supposed to describe business processes on the basis of Web Services. As they compete for being the dominating standard in this area, a comparison is needed.

First, it has to be explained what Web Services are, on what architecture they are based on and what standards are used to realize this architecture.

For comparing the languages effectively, criteria and an example of use are defined. The criteria are based on the requirements of a business process modelling language and the aspects of a business process. The example of use is applied to each language. The main part of the paper presents a description of the languages and an analysis based on the criteria. In the last chapter the languages are compared in a table.
